Getting to know the Speechify Windows app

Speechify for Windows lets you listen to anything on your screen and type with your voice in any app, anywhere on your PC.

What you can do with Speechify

  • Text-to-Speech: highlight any text and use the Play Selected Text feature to have it read aloud to you, or use the Screenshot to Listen feature to capture and read text from anywhere on your screen.

  • Dictation: speak and have your words transcribed in real time into any text field — emails, documents, chat messages, and more.

The app window

Open Speechify from the Start menu or system tray. The left sidebar gives you access to:

  • Home — see your recent activity and quick-start tutorials.

  • Dictation — configure your microphone, dictation engine, shortcuts, and dictation dictionary.

  • Text to Speech — choose your voice, speed, shortcuts, and Miniplayer settings.

  • Shortcuts — view and customise all keyboard shortcuts.

Running in the background

Speechify runs quietly in your system tray so your shortcuts are always available — even when the app window is closed.

The Miniplayer and Dictation Pill

  • Miniplayer — a small floating bar with playback controls and real-time highlighted subtitles, so you don’t need to switch apps.

  • Dictation Pill — a small floating pill that stays on screen while Speechify is running, showing you the current state of dictation.
