Where Does My Dictated Text Go on Mac?

Your dictated text is inserted directly into whichever text field your cursor is in when you finish dictating an email draft, a Word document, a chat message, or any other input field.

If no text field is focused, or your text could not be automatically inserted for another reason, you can use Auto-copy to Clipboard, the Paste Last Transcript shortcut, or the Copy Text button shown near the Dictation Pill.

Auto-copy to Clipboard

You can also have Speechify automatically copy your dictation to the clipboard so you can paste it anywhere:

  1. Open the Speechify app.

  2. Click Dictation in the left sidebar.

  3. Toggle on the Auto-copy to Clipboard feature.

After each dictation session, your transcribed text will be copied to your clipboard paste it anywhere using ⌘V.

With Auto-copy to Clipboard turned off, you can still use the Paste Last Transcript shortcut (⌘⌥V) or the Copy Text button shown near the Dictation Pill.
