Getting to know the Speechify Mac App

Speechify for Mac lets you listen to anything on your screen and type with your voice in any app, anywhere on your Mac.

Start by clicking on the Mac app icon from your toolbar to access the Mac App

Text-to-Speech: Highlight any text and use Play Selected Text feature to have it read aloud to you, or use Screenshot to Listen feature to capture and read text from anywhere on your screen.

Dictation: Speak and have your words transcribed in real time into any text field — emails, documents, chat messages, and more.

The Mac App dashbaord, allows you to access the following:

  • Dictate

    • Allows you to instantly use dictation and is perfect for

      Slack, Superhuman and Outlook, Any email app,Notes, Notion,Outlook,
      Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and anywhere in your browser — including Chrome like always.

  • Listen

    • You can open a document ( PDF, WORD Text etc..) and listen to the selected text

    • Select the voice/narrator

    • Select the Speed

    • Take a screenshot to listen

  • Open Speechify

    • Home - see your recent activity and quick-start tutorials.

    • Dictation - configure your microphone, dictation engine, shortcuts, and dictation dictionary.

    • Text to Speech - choose your voice, speed, shortcuts, and Miniplayer settings.

    • Shortcuts - view and customize all keyboard shortcuts.

  • Settings

    • The options include Account Details, Mac App version, Option to launch at Startup, Help us improve, Display in Menubar, logout option.

  • More

    • Provides the options below

    Notes: Running in the background

    Speechify runs in your menu bar so your shortcuts are always available - even when the Mac App window is closed.

  • The Miniplayer and Dictation Pill

    • Miniplayer - a small floating bar with playback controls and real-time highlighted subtitles, so you don’t need to switch apps.

    • Dictation Pill — a small floating pill that stays on screen while Speechify is running, showing you the current state of dictation.
